Letter From Death Row

To those who are in jail, in prison, or on death row,

we are not here to condemn you,

but to offer you hope

that is found in Jesus Christ.

May our letters be a source

of comfort and encouragement to you

through this difficult time.

A Letter from Death Row

O mama, you wouldn't believe the misery that I'm in.

It torments my soul day and night.

This darkened cell of cold steel metal.

It sickens me.

Yet I only have myself to blame.

Who would have thought that one bad decision

in a heated moment,

would land me in such a dreadful place.

I never dreamed that

I could become such a monster.

That I capable of taking another's life.

Now I  wait, like a spider

hoovering over an open flame,

waiting for the messenger of death

to tell me it is time,

to pay with my life, for the life I took.

My eyes are parched mama,

searching endlessly for materials

to plan my escape.

All I can think of is leaving here.

I've climbed these prison walls

a thousand times in my mind.

There's no hope for my escape.

I see myself growing even more colder

than I was before.

Even the stark trees outside my window

seem to mimic my isolation.

If only I could find the grace of God,

maybe then I could survive.

All I hear is the ticking of the clock

bringing me closer to my time.

There's so much time to think, mama.

It consumes my every thought.

I'm constantly reminded of the evil I've done.

The freedom that I lost.

Night after night, outside my window,

I hear the voice of the preacher

pleading with  me to accept God's mercy.

He calls out to me rentlessly,

through the prision walls.

His convicting words laced with compassion,

he cries out...

"All who come, must come through the blood of the cross.

There is no other way.

Come to Christ with nothing to offer.

Come tonight, just as you are."

Through endless nights I toss and turn,

covering my head with my pillow

to drown out his words.

He's right mama.

In a strange way we are all on death row.

Sinners, condemned to die

by a Holy and Just God.

I'm tired of running, mama.

So many years I've spent running in the wrong direction.

I've seen my sin

and am in agreement with God.

The preacher man,

it wasn't by chance he was outside my window.

His steps were ordered by the Lord,

to give me a message...

of God's grace and unfailing love.

Though I must pay with my life

for life I took,

my life is far from over.

I have dealt with my sin, mama.

I have dismissed all my appeals.

There's so many others that need God,

like I did.

For the remainer of my time

left here one earth,

I will serve my time, serving the Lord.

Dear soul,

God has a message for you.

It was not by chance that your here tonight,

for your steps also are ordered by the Lord.

That's why our paths met.

Though you may have fallen,

you have not fallen so deep that His grace cannot reach.

God has a plan and purpose for your life.

Though you may have lost all, you still have God.

If you will invite Him into your life.

If you will like to have that peace tonight,

and have all your sins under His blood.

Right now, wherever you are,

you can bow your head,

and commit life to Christ.

You can begin a relationship with Him

by praying a prayer such as the following:

"Oh God, I am sinner.

I am sorry for my sins.

Please forgive me.

I want to turn from my sin.

I receive Jesus Christ as my Savior;

I confess Him as my Lord.

From now on, I want to follow Him.

In Jesus' name, Amen."
